Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
Wet Ingredients
  • 1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 cup fresh chives, chopped
  • 1 3/4 cups buttermilk Should be at room temperature
  • 2 tablespoons butter, melted Optional, for serving

Method
 

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C).
  2. In a large bowl, mix the all-purpose flour, whole wheat flour, baking soda, and salt together.
  3. Stir in the grated cheddar cheese and chopped chives.
  4. Make a well in the center and pour in the buttermilk. Mix until the dough comes together.
  5. Transfer the dough to a floured surface and knead gently for about 30 seconds.
  6. Shape the dough into a round loaf and place it on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Cut a shallow cross on the top of the loaf.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the bread sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. Allow to cool on a wire rack before slicing and serving.

Notes

Wrap in plastic wrap or aluminum foil and keep at room temperature. Consume within two days for best taste. For longer storage, slice and freeze in parchment paper and a freezer bag.
