Method
Preparation of Bang Bang Sauce
- In a small bowl, combine all the bang bang sauce ingredients. Whisk until well mixed. Adjust the flavor as needed, adding more sriracha for spice or honey for sweetness. Chill until serving time.
Prepare the Ground Turkey Mixture
- Heat a splash of sesame oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Once hot, add the ground turkey, breaking it into smaller pieces.
- Cook until the turkey browns and reaches an internal temperature of 165°F, as recommended by the USDA food safety guidelines.
- Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in the remaining ingredients, leaving out the cornstarch for now.
Simmer and Thicken
- Let the mixture simmer for 2-3 minutes, stirring occasionally.
- Sprinkle the cornstarch on top, stirring until incorporated.
- Just before serving, mix in a few tablespoons of the bang bang sauce for extra flavor, if desired.
Assemble Rice Bowls
- Layer your bowl with rice, veggies, and any toppings you like.
- Spoon the ground turkey mixture on top and drizzle with additional bang bang sauce.
- Garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds for a polished finish.
Notes
Store any leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To maintain the quality of the rice and toppings, separate the components before storing. Reheat the turkey and rice mixture in the microwave or skillet until heated through. Use brown rice or cauliflower rice for a healthier base. Swap ground turkey for ground chicken or tofu for a different protein.
