Ingredients

Dough Ingredients
  • 3.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast Ensure yeast is fresh for best results.
  • 1 cup whole milk, warm (about 110°F) Make sure milk is warm but not hot.
  • 0.25 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.25 cup warm water Should be about the same temp as milk.
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1.5 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter (for brushing after baking)

Method

Preparation
  1. Combine warm water and yeast in a small bowl. Let sit for 5–10 minutes until foamy.
  2. In a large bowl, mix warm milk, sugar, and softened butter. Stir in the yeast mixture.
  3. Gradually add flour and salt to the mixture. Mix until a dough forms.
  4. Knead the dough for 8–10 minutes by hand or 5 minutes using a dough hook until it becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover it, and let it rise for 1 to 1.5 hours until it has doubled in size.
  6. Punch down the risen dough, shape it into a loaf, and place it in a greased 9 x 5-inch pan.
  7. Cover the loaf and let it rise for another 30–45 minutes until it appears puffy.
  8. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C) and bake for 30–35 minutes until the top is golden and sounds hollow when tapped.
  9. If desired, brush the top with melted butter immediately after removing it from the oven. Cool for 10 minutes, then transfer the loaf to a wire rack to cool completely.
