Ingredients

For the Donuts
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • 1/3 cup buttermilk Can substitute with homemade buttermilk.
  • 1 large egg
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped fresh strawberries Use fresh strawberries for best flavor.
For the Glaze
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk or cream Adjust to get desired glaze consistency.
  • 2 tbsp mashed strawberries Strained if needed.
  • Optional: pink food coloring or freeze-dried strawberry powder

Method

Preparation
  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.
  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
  3. In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  4. Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the finely chopped strawberries.
  5. Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling them about three-quarters full.
Baking
  1. Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the donuts are springy to the touch and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
  2. Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Glazing
  1. For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and mashed strawberries until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
  2. Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and allow them to set on the wire rack. If you wish, add sprinkles for a festive touch.

Notes

For the best flavor, use fresh strawberries. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature. Reheat in a toaster oven or microwave for warmth.
