Preparation
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a donut pan with non-stick spray or butter.
- In a mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, granulated sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until evenly combined.
- In another bowl, whisk together the buttermilk, egg, melted butter, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients and stir until just combined. Be careful not to overmix. Gently fold in the finely chopped strawberries.
- Spoon or pipe the batter into the donut cavities, filling them about three-quarters full.
Baking
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10–12 minutes or until the donuts are springy to the touch and a toothpick inserted comes out clean.
- Allow the donuts to cool in the pan for about 5 minutes, then transfer them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Glazing
- For the glaze, whisk together the powdered sugar, milk, and mashed strawberries until smooth. Adjust the consistency with more milk or powdered sugar as needed.
- Dip the cooled donuts into the glaze and allow them to set on the wire rack. If you wish, add sprinkles for a festive touch.
Notes
For the best flavor, use fresh strawberries. Store leftovers in an airtight container for up to 2 days at room temperature. Reheat in a toaster oven or microwave for warmth.
